How do you excavate repressed emotions and conflicts with the Emotional Writing Process? Are there questions to bring feelings and conflicts from down under? Thanx! Barb |

Hi Barb,
Write down a list of emotions you might have repressed like say anger, embarassment, fear, or some other stressful emotion. Ask your body if there is anger? Ask your body is there a conflict? Ask your body was there something that I fear? Recall the events those emotions happened in. Keep going over and over those emotionally charged events. Write out as many details that come up. This will bring all your repressed emotions to the surface. This repeating the scenes will desensitize what was repressed. Peter Warren |

Hi Barb,
Going over and over details of an event pulls everything up and then desensitizes it. Repressed stuff comes out of the woodwork. Old decisions. Intentions. Beliefs. Avoided emotions. Avoided conflicts. It all comes up because reviewing events itself creates a powerful entrancing state. Liken it to a vacuum cleaner of the unconscious. Ed Boylan |

Questions for bringing out repressed emotions: Davis asks: "What kinds of questions can I ask to uncover buried emotions with the Emotional Writing Process?" Davis here are some probing questions to stimulate the uncovery of buried emotions: *As a child did I feel unloved, unaccepted, or unappreciated? Am I angry at someone for that? *What did either of my parents or siblings say I made myself angry about? *Anything in my past make me angry? *Was I ever abused physically, sexually, or verbally? *Was I pressured to perform? *Who was critical with me? *Is there anything presently making me angry or annoyed? *What presently can't I stand? *What makes me heat up with anger? *When isn't it "nice" to be angry? *What responsibilities and pressures currently make me angry? *How do loved ones get me angry? *What at work makes me angry? *What stresses me the most? *Does trying to be perfect, pleasing others, or being fearful make me angry? *What about being me makes me angry? *What was life with my parents like? *Was there anything you felt shameful, guilty, envious, angry, down, or fearful about in your childhood? *Did you live with a substance abuser, workaholic, alcoholic, perfectionist, or obsessive-compulsive? *Did you have to take care of any member of your family? *Was your family poor or different? *Did you feel pressure being around your family? *Were you ashamed of members of your family? *Was there mental illness in your family? *What were some of your family's rules which you felt were challenging? *Did you fail to meet your family's or partner's expectations? *Were you ever rejected by important people in your life? *Did you ever fail at something important? *Did someone close to you pass away? *Were you ever involved in a repressive religion or political movement? *Were your parents overly protective with you. *Were you taught that certain emotions were bad? *What were the saddest moments in your life? The bitterest moments in your life? *Did you ever feel deprived or treated unfairly? *Did you feel like an outsider? *Did you ever feel like a phoney? *Were your parents ever divorced? Did you ever think you caused it? *How do you behave when you're stressed? *What is most dissapointing or frustrating in your relationships or marriage? *Do you fear or hate conflict? *What secret about yourself would you keep from anyone? *Do you think about dying? *What saccrifices do you hate making? *What keeps you from feeling open and relaxed? *What do you fear the most? *What sometimes preoccupies your mind?
